Suitability

The 14 – 16 alternative provision at Nescot provides education and support for students in Year 10 or 11 who are unable to thrive in a mainstream school setting or have not been home schooled for a period of time. Focusing on the student needs, the 14 – 16 Alternative Provision at Nescot provides an inclusive learning environment where students can re-engage with education and develop essential academic, social, and vocational skills.

The provision is not suitable for a student who would be more suited to a Pupil Referral unit. It also not a SEN specialist setting.

Referral

Applicants must be referred to Nescot via their school or by their Local Authority. Students must have an EHCP.

The 14 – 16 Admission panel meets frequently to discuss new referrals. A referral needs to be made by the Local Authority or school. The referral form can be accessed below. This process does not follow the statutory 15 day assessment period to ensure a full assessment is made and students are placed correctly.

Courses for year 10 and 11 students

The 14 – 16 Alternative Provision at Nescot offers two different pathways – progression and transition pathway. Placement of student will be decided once the referral process has been completed.

Transition Pathway

This pathway would suit a student who has been unable to access education for a period of time, home-schooled or experience a high level of anxiety in a mainstream setting.  The 14 – 16 Alternative Provision at Nescot aim to offer a 1:3 ratio in this pathway.
