14-16 ALTERNATIVE PROVISION
The 14–16 alternative provision at Nescot provides education and support for students in Year 10 or 11 who are unable to thrive in a mainstream school setting. A full or part time placement can be offered. Students must have an EHCP.

Suitability
The 14 – 16 alternative provision at Nescot provides education and support for students in Year 10 or 11 who are unable to thrive in a mainstream school setting or have not been home schooled for a period of time. Focusing on the student needs, the 14 – 16 Alternative Provision at Nescot provides an inclusive learning environment where students can re-engage with education and develop essential academic, social, and vocational skills.
The provision is not suitable for a student who would be more suited to a Pupil Referral unit. It also not a SEN specialist setting.
Referral
Applicants must be referred to Nescot via their school or by their Local Authority. Students must have an EHCP.
The 14 – 16 Admission panel meets frequently to discuss new referrals. A referral needs to be made by the Local Authority or school. The referral form can be accessed below. This process does not follow the statutory 15 day assessment period to ensure a full assessment is made and students are placed correctly.
Alternative provision
Students access Functional Skills English and maths, Gateway Award in Science and King’s Trust Award in Employability. Alongside this, the 14 – 16 alternative provision at Nescot does offer BTEC qualifications and students access vocational tasters to assist the student making a 16+ education choice.
Smaller class sizes
The 14 – 16 alternative provision at Nescot offers smaller class sizes, and pathways help ensure that each learner is supported to achieve positive outcomes. Students will access learning opportunities alongside pastoral support that focuses on wellbeing, behaviour, and personal development.
Preparing for the next step
The aim of 14–16 alternative provision at Nescot is to equip young people with the skills, qualifications, and resilience needed to progress successfully into further education, training, or employment.
Courses for year 10 and 11 students
The 14 – 16 Alternative Provision at Nescot offers two different pathways – progression and transition pathway. Placement of student will be decided once the referral process has been completed.
Transition Pathway
This pathway would suit a student who has been unable to access education for a period of time, home-schooled or experience a high level of anxiety in a mainstream setting. The 14 – 16 Alternative Provision at Nescot aim to offer a 1:3 ratio in this pathway.
Progression Pathway
this pathway would suit a student who may be accessing a mainstream setting but it is not meeting the student needs. Interventions may have already been offered such as reduced timetable, small group interventions and more student support in the classroom which have not been successful. This pathway can also be offered to students who have been home-schooled or experience anxiety. The 14 – 16 Alternative Provision at Nescot aim to offer a 1:8 ratio in this pathway.
