Course Overview
Our ESOL courses are aimed at 19+ adult learners who want to improve their English language and life skills. The intent is to support students newly arrived as well as those who have settled in the UK, to develop their English language skills whilst gaining qualifications to enable them to access the community and work.
Entry Requirements
We offer this course at the following levels:
- Entry Level 1
- Entry Level 2
- Entry Level 3
- Level 1
- Level 2
All learners must be assessed on enrolment to determine the most suitable level for them.
No formal qualifications are required. You will be assessed on entry to ensure you are placed on the correct level course for you. However, if you have studied ESOL before, please bring along any previous ESOL certificates you may have.
This course requires a high level of commitment inside and outside the classroom. You will be expected to maintain a good level of attendance.
Please bring proof of nationality/status such as your passport/Home Office papers/ID card with you on enrolment days. If you are in receipt of any benefits please bring evidence of this which must be dated within the last six months to be eligible for the subsidised fee.
What the course covers
At Nescot we offer Ascentis accredited ESOL courses in Speaking & Listening, Writing & Reading at the following levels:
- Entry Level 1
- Entry Level 2
- Entry Level 3
- Level 1
- Level 2
A full Skills for Life Certificate can be gained once you have completed all 3 Skills for Life Awards in:
- Speaking & Listening
- Writing
- Reading
The estimated time for completion of a full certificate is a full academic year.
Lessons are located at Nescot College and at Epsom & Ewell Hub in central Epsom.
We will ensure the course is suitable for you by assessing your level of English at enrolment.
Fees and funding
Those who qualify as a ‘home’ student may be able to study for FREE if you are in work, and have an income of under £25,000 or are in receipt of a means tested benefit and looking for work.
(If you have permanent residence in the UK or have ‘settled’ status, you will normally qualify as a ‘home’ student. If you are unsure if you qualify, you can contact our student finance team or speak to us when you come to enrol.)
If you are assessed as an overseas student, you will be required to pay the course fee in full (as detailed below) on enrolment.

There are various class days and times dependant on level.
Please note all applicants are given an initial assessment at enrolment.
