Course Overview
The Level 2 Extended Certificate in Animal Care is an assignment-based course aimed at people looking to make a career change or simply people with an interest in the care and welfare of companion animals.
Entry Requirements
Subject to interview which will take place in the Spring Term.
This course involves assessment by written assignments and, for this reason, it is advised that applicants have appropriate levels of literacy in order to successfully complete the externally set assessments.
What the course covers
You will be taught by qualified teachers with extensive industry experience in the field of animal care as well as academic qualifications in the field. The delivery is a mixture of classroom based theory sessions as well as some practical, hands-on experience with animals, utilising Nescot’s extensive animal facilities.
During the year, you will study these units:
- Undertake Animal Feeding
- Maintain Animal Health and Welfare
- Animal Accommodation
- Basic Principles of Animal Establishments
Applicants should be prepared to attend every taught session, but should also be aware that as the course is assessed entirely through assignments, there is a degree of work to be completed outside the evening lessons. As a rough guide, for every 3-hour taught session you can expect to complete an additional two hours of assignment work or reading in your own time.
