Course Overview
The course combines practical and theory sessions and will enable you to gain good practical skills with underpinning job knowledge of Carpentry and Joinery. You will cover a range of units, such as how to erect and dismantle working platforms, and construct carcassing for floor and roofs.
Entry Requirements
Successful completion of all parts of the Level 1 Diploma and a satisfactory reference from your tutor.
English & Maths : GCSE Grade 3 and 2 or Level 1 Functional skills and Level 1 Carpentry.
What the course covers
This course consists of the following units:
- Carry out first fixing operations
- Carry out maintenance to non-structural carpentry work
- Carry out second fixing operations
- Carry out structural carcassing operations
- Health and safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
- Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools
- Understanding construction technology
- Understanding information, quantities and communication with others
This CSKILLS/NOCN qualification is recognised by the construction industry as a training programme, however it does not qualify for the award of a CSCS Card.

Fees and funding
Please note:
- Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP, and are studying Further Education courses are not normally charged course fees
- Adults may need to pay a fee depending on their personal circumstances. This will be assessed against the relevant Funding Body eligibility criteria at point of enrolment
If you don’t qualify for fee remission, the fees for 2026/27 will be:
£2,544* (plus registration fee to be advised at enrolment)

Fees are for 2026/27 entry and apply to students eligible for home fee status enrolling to funded programmes. The fees quoted are subject to personal circumstances and will be confirmed at the time of your enrolment, depending on eligibility criteria. Progression
You may choose to set up your own company and work for yourself, or opt for further study. Your study options after completion of this course include progressing to Level 3 qualifications in carpentry and Levels 4 and 5 if you would like a career in construction management.

34 weeks (6 hours per week – Monday and Tuesday evenings – 6-9pm)
