Course Overview
Level 2 City & Guilds 2365.
This course provides a mixture of practical and theory lessons, enabling you to gain an all-round understanding of the electrical trade. As an electrician you will face a range of practical challenges in your day-to-day work and this is mirrored in the way your course is taught.
Entry Requirements
New Students
GCSE Grade 9-4 in both maths and English. We will also require copies of previously attained qualifications, grades or certificates.*
Progressing Students
Pass Level 1 Electrical with English and maths. A satisfactory reference for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality.
Priority will be given to progressing students at main enrolment.
*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.
What the course covers
Working Effectively and Safety in an Electro-Technical Environment: This unit aims to develop your ability to identify safe practice and to work within the guidelines set by current health and safety legislation for the Electro-Technical industry.
Principles of Electro-Technology: In this unit you will gain an understanding of the purpose and fundamental principles of electro-technology within the industry.
Application of Health & Safety and Electrical Principles: This unit prepares you for working in the industry and enables you to apply the safe working practices and electrical principles that you have learnt.
Installation: This unit is concerned with the underlying principles related to electrical installation. It will include the understanding and use of statutory and non-statutory legislation, use of drawings and specifications and types of cabling and equipment used in the industry.
Work Experience is a part of this course, the hours and dates will be determined by the course tutor. Work experience can be up to a maximum of two weeks on an external placement, you are encouraged to source your own placement with support from the WEX Team and your course tutor. Where external placements are not possible you will be expected to take part in simulated work experience organised by the college.
Fees and funding
Please note:
- Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP, and are studying Further Education courses are not normally charged course fees
- Adults may need to pay a fee depending on their personal circumstances. This will be assessed against the relevant Funding Body eligibility criteria at point of enrolment
If you don’t qualify for fee remission, the fees for 2026/27 will be:
£1,362 (plus registration fee to be advised at enrolment)
Fees are for 2026/27 entry and apply to students eligible for home fee status enrolling to funded programmes. The fees quoted are subject to personal circumstances and will be confirmed at the time of your enrolment, depending on eligibility criteria. Progression
This Level 2 qualification will prepare you to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship.
