Course Overview

Plumbing: Level 2 City & Guilds 8202.

This course is for candidates who want to work as plumbers in the building services engineering sector. It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the plumbing sector.

Entry Requirements

New Students

You must have GCSE English and maths at a minimum of Grade 4 in one, and Grade 3 in the other.* An initial assessment will take place at enrolment.

Progressing students

Level 1 in Plumbing plus English and maths. A satisfactory reference for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality.

How to Apply- Please complete an application form and we will invite you in for an interview with a member of the plumbing team.

Priority will be given to progressing students at main enrolment.

*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required


What the course covers

Mandatory Units:

  • Health and safety in building services engineering
  • Electrical principles and processes for building services engineering
  • Scientific principles for domestic, industrial and commercial plumbing
  • Common Plumbing process
  • Cold water systems
  • Domestic hot water systems
  • Sanitation
  • Central heating systems
  • Drainage systems
  • Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering

For all candidates on the full time programme of study who do not hold GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above will study English and Maths Functional Skills alongside their main programme of study.

Fees and funding

Essential Personal Protective Equipment and book: approximate cost £75

Please note:

  • Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP, and are studying Further Education courses are not normally charged course fees
  • Adults may need to pay a fee depending on their personal circumstances. This will be assessed against the relevant Funding Body eligibility criteria at point of enrolment

If you don’t qualify for fee remission, the fees for 2026/27 will be:

£1,359 (plus registration fee to be advised at enrolment)

Fees are for 2026/27 entry and apply to students eligible for home fee status enrolling to funded programmes. The fees quoted are subject to personal circumstances and will be confirmed at the time of your enrolment, depending on eligibility criteria. Progression

Learners who successfully achieve the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Plumbing and wish to continue their studies in plumbing may progress on to the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing and Domestic Heating as an apprentice.
