Course Overview

The Extended Diploma is designed as a two-year, full time course ideal for anyone who is interested in learning about the Enterprise and Entrepreneurship and wants to progress to higher education courses in business areas before entering employment. It can also support learners who want to progress directly to employment.

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship is equivalent to 3 A Levels. The course requires students to set up and run their own business.


Entry Requirements

New students
Four GCSEs at grade 4 and above to include maths and English.*

Progressing students
Level 2 Diploma at Merit plus English and maths. A satisfactory reference for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality.

*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.

What the course covers

Mandatory units
The course is made up of eight mandatory units, eight internally assessed and four externally assessed. Learners must complete and achieve at Pass grade or above for all units over the two-year period.

In the first term all students will study 3 core units to gain an understanding of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs, Developing a Marketing Campaign and Principles of Management.

        Year 2 – Extra-curriculum activities

        All students will participate in running their own businesses in Year 2. This will contribute to an extra-curriculum activities.

        COVID permitting there will be external business-related trips.

        • Life-skills : all students will take part in a 90 minute weekly Personal Development.

        Work Experience is a part of this course, the hours and dates will be determined by the course tutor. Work experience can be up to a maximum of two weeks on an external placement, you are encouraged to source your own placement with support from your course tutor. Where external placements are not possible you will be expected to take part in simulated work experience organised by the college.

        Assessment

        BTEC Nationals are assessed using a combination of internal assessments, which are set and marked by teachers, and external assessments which are set and marked by Pearson:

        • mandatory units have a combination of internal and external assessments
        • all optional units are internally assessed.

        Fees and funding

        Please note:

        • Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP, and are studying Further Education courses are not charged for course fees

        Progression

        Successful completion of the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma will enable you to progress to Higher Education studying for HND in Business, AAT or Degree in a business-related subject. Or you might decide to go directly into a range of jobs in areas such as Accounts, Marketing, Personnel or Retailing.
