Course Overview

This course is the ideal qualification for students who wish to enter the public services as you will be trained in the different disciplines required in the uniformed services.

Entry Requirements

New Students

Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, to include either English or Maths*.

*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.

Progressing Students

A Level 2 at Merit, and either English or Mathematics at grade 4 or above. Your tutor will determine your capability Of studying at Level 3, including by assessing your behaviour, attendance above 85%, attitude and punctuality.

What the course covers

You will study leadership and management techniques, focus on government policies and the protective services, team development, physical preparation for the protective services as well as outdoor adventure units.

Mandatory Units:

    • Citizenship and Diversity
    • Behaviour and Discipline in the Uniform Protective Services (external exam)
    • Physical Preparation, Health and Wellbeing
    • Teamwork, Leadership and Communications in the Uniformed Protective Services
    • Government and the Protective Services (external exam)

Optional Units:

    • Police Powers and the Lax

Fees and funding

Please note:

  • Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP, and are studying Further Education courses are not charged course fees.

You will have to pay for the following:

  • Trips, costing approximately £370
  • A uniform is required 2 days a week at a minimum cost but can be covered by bursary if this is accessible

Progression

p>From this course you can either progress on to the Extended Diploma and from there to Higher Education at HND or degree level or into your chosen service providing you meet their entry requirements in the armed and public services.
