Our next Open Evening is on Thursday 15 May.
Nescot was delighted to host The Panathlon Challenge for the second year in our Sports Hall. The event is run in partnership with Active Surrey and brings together children with special educational needs from local primary schools to compete in various sporting activities.
16 of our Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma Sport students were thrilled to be involved as leaders for each of the sporting activities which saw children competing in teams across two sessions during the day. They were responsible for ensuring that the children had fun participating, keeping track of the scores and giving out medals and trophies.
All of our sport students said that that event went really well and that they found it a good learning experience. Some of them gave us their thoughts:
Jack said, “It was great interacting with all the participants who were so well behaved. I’m interested in getting into coaching and being involved in today’s event, has helped me gain the skills I need.”
Lashae added, “I think this has been a really good experience for me. It’s taken me out of my comfort zone and given me an insight into coaching.”
Sienna commented, “It’s been great to experience working with younger children on different activities and sporting challenges.”
Xavi said that he found the event a great learning experience in coaching.
Mark Bullock, Panathlon Event Manager said, “It's great to be at Nescot for the second time. The young leaders that supported us and delivered the sporting activities did a wonderful job. We’ve had compliments from the some of the staff from the schools present here.”
Krishana Black, Active Schools Officer added, “It's a wonderful partnership that's been happening for the last few years between Active Surrey and Nescot. They have been wonderful at opening up their facilities to let us host events, and also, at the same time, getting their young leaders trained up to have the experience of what it's like to work with children from primary schools. Events like this help build confidence and will help the students going into the workforce to get an idea of what it’s like to interact with different people and age groups.”
Harrison May, Sport tutor at Nescot said, “Our learners have really benefitted from such a brilliant experience. The Panathlon Challenge enables them to develop their interpersonal skills, acquire essential skills to build their CVs and gain insights to get them work ready. Events like these also help us to continue to develop our links with our local community. Thank you to Krishana from Active Surrey and Mark from The Panathlon Challenge for giving us the opportunity to host the event at Nescot, we look forward to building on our partnership.”
