The start of a new academic year has brought fresh faces on and off the track for Curriculum Manager George Keith and the Nescot Motorsport team.
With a new cohort of Level 2 Motorsport students joining the college, the Snetterton race week-end offered the perfect opportunity for learners to experience the fact-paced world of Motorsport firsthand.
Tutor John Kavaliauskas also joined the race team for the first time, gaining valuable insight into what it takes to keep a race car competitive throughout a race week-end.
You don’t realise just how much work goes on behind the scenes and how much work is involved. The team is constantly making adjustments and responding to driver feedback between races. It’s a fantastic learning environment for our students who get to experience the realities of motorsports engineering under pressure.
For Level 2 Motorsport students Reanne, Ella and Alfie marked their very first race week-end, despite being only a few weeks into their course.
From helping prepare the car to supporting the team throughout the weekend, all three students demonstrated enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to learn. Their hard work and professionalism played an important role in delivering a successful weekend both on and off the track.
Experiences like these are what make Nescot’s Motorsport courses unique, giving students the chance to develop practical skills in a live racing environment while working alongside industry professionals.
Behind the wheel, driver Elliot Lettis produced another impressive performance across all four races.
His standout moment came in the final race of the weekend. Starting 23rd on the grid in a field of 32 cars, Elliot fought his way through the pack to finish an incredible fourth place, narrowly missing out on a podium finish.
It was a performance that demonstrated both driver skill and the behind-the-scenes work of the Nescot team.
The team’s efforts are continuing to pay dividends in the championship standings. After another strong weekend, Nescot has climbed two places in the Student Motorsport Championship table and now sits seventh overall heading into the final race meeting of the season at the iconic Silverstone Circuit on 10 and 11 October 2026.
As preparations begin for the season finale, George is optimistic about what the team can achieve.
We’ve worked hard to climb the standings and put ourselves in a strong position going into the final race weekend. I’d love to see us secure a podium finish at Silverstone and climb another place in the championship to finish in the top five. That would be a fantastic achievement!
The experience the students have gained this season has been invaluable, and we’ll use everything we’ve learned to come back even stronger for the next season in April 2027.
