CONSTRUCTION & TRADES

The construction industry is a major part of the UK economy, worth around £140 billion and employing millions of people, so the skills you gain are highly valued by employers. With thousands of job vacancies and a growing need for new talent, there are excellent opportunities waiting for you.

Careers in construction

On any of our Construction courses you’ll develop practical, hands-on skills and gain real experience while learning from industry experts. Whether you enjoy working with your hands, solving problems or leading projects, there’s a pathway to suit you and opportunities to do an apprenticeship, continue your studies or start your trade career straight after college.

Build your future

At Nescot, you can explore a range of construction trades including brickwork, carpentry and joinery, plastering, plumbing and electrical installation. If you’re unsure which path to choose, our construction multi-skills course lets you try different trades, helping you build practical skills and discover what suits you best.

Great facilities

You’ll train in purpose-built workshops designed to reflect real construction environments, giving you the space and tools to develop your skills with confidence. Our facilities are equipped with industry-standard equipment across all trades, allowing you to practise techniques used on-site. From fully fitted electrical bays to specialist areas for brickwork, carpentry, plastering and plumbing, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a professional setting, helping you feel fully prepared for the workplace.

One of the highlights of doing the Bricklaying course at Nescot has been the opportunity to take part in the SurreyFE Construction Skills competition. I was thrilled to win first place in the Brickwork category. The teaching is good and the tutors make the course enjoyable and fun. It’s useful being able to learn practical skills in the onsite workshop that I will be able to use when I start work.

The course is very interactive, and the facilities are good. It helps that the tutors have industry experience, as you can discuss both course-related and job queries. I would recommend this course, it’s worth having a hands-on skill where you’re able to see the difference your work makes. It was great participating in SkillELECTRIC and good experience working in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
