Level 1 Health, Social Care and Children and Young People’s Settings

Course Overview

This Level 1 course gives you the basic knowledge and confidence needed to work in health, social care or childcare settings, including how to keep children of a variety of ages healthy and safe. It includes a BTEC Level 1 and 2 Cooking Skills qualification and a CACHE Level 1 Certificate in Wellbeing and is designed to lead onto Level 2 study.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including Maths and English.*

You will need to apply for a DBS check when you start the course.

*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.

What the course covers

You will learn the importance of both play and healthy eating in the growth and development of children and the projects you undertake will develop your own interpersonal and life skills. As part of the course you may be offered the opportunity to undertake work experience in a childcare setting.

You are required to complete 15 hours work experience, which will be planned and organised by your Placement Officer.

Assessment

Assessment is by coursework for each unit and work experience.

Fees and funding

Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 with a valid EHCP, who are studying Further Education courses are not charged course fees.
