Course Overview
This course will prepare you for a career in health and social care, or progression to a Level 3 qualification. You will learn about communication and individual rights, individual needs in health and social care and human growth and development. You will also have the opportunity to go on work experience in a health care or early years setting as part of this course.
Entry Requirements
New Students
Four GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including English and Math*.
*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.
Progressing Students
A level 1 Diploma plus English and Maths, plus a good reference from your tutor for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality.
Please note, all applicants will be asked to apply for an Enhanced DBS check before starting the course.

You will study subject areas, including:
Core Units
- Communication in Health & Social Care
- Care Needs in Health and Social Care
- Equality & Diversity in Health & Social Care
- Creative activities
- Human Lifespan Development
- Health and Social Care Services.
This course will form the main vocational element of your individual study programme; you will also continue to develop your skills in Maths and English and take part in activities designed to maximise your employability.
You will also do vocational work experience in a health care or early years setting as part of the course.
Assignments may include:
- Discussion
- Written tasks
- Role play
- Presentation
Assessment is by coursework for each unit and work experience.
As part of this course you will be required to attend an external work placement for a total of 30 hours over the duration of your course, the awarding body determines the number of hours required to pass this qualification.
Fees and funding
Please note:
- Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP, and are studying Further Education courses are not charged course fees.
