Course Overview

The Level 2 Certificate Introducing Caring for Children and Young People will give learners a good understanding of childcare and education, parenting and babysitting. It will also help them to make an informed choice about working with children and young people.


Entry Requirements

You do not need to have any formal qualifications in order to follow this course, but you will need to demonstrate commitment and motivation to work through the specially prepared distance-learning/online materials.

What the course covers

The course is suitable for anyone who is looking to gain knowledge of children and young people as they grow and learn and develop.

The course will cover the following topics and consists of 7 subject areas:
‚ Young children’s development
‚ Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
‚ Respecting and valuing children
‚ Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet
‚ Importance of play for early learning
‚ The value of play to young children
‚ Sharing learning experiences with children


Assessment

Candidates work through the course materials for the programme at times convenient to them and so there is no need to attend the college to gain the qualification. The learning materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities to allow candidates to practice their skills and test their learning.

The five assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme and work-based activities and experience. Learners should aim to complete the course within twelve weeks.

Fees and funding

Most people are eligible to access our Distance Learning courses for free, the criteria below outline the requirements for free study.

You must:

  • Be aged 19 years or above as of 1 August of the current academic year.
  • Have lived in the UK, EU, EEA for the past 3 years, for purposes other than study.
  • Not currently be enrolled on an Apprenticeship.
  • Live in England, in a funded postal code within Surrey, GLA or a non-devolved area.

Progression

Having completed this course, learners may wish to consider further study for example combine this course with some of our other Level 2 courses as these will give you a good foundation on which to progress onto a level 3 course or help move you towards working with children and young people in a range of settings.
