Nescot’s National Student Survey results surpass the national average

Nescot’s Higher Education (HE) students have rated our Learning Resource Centre (LRC) support well above the national average in the 2025 National Student Survey (NSS), with the highest scores we’ve ever achieved.

In the Learning Resources category, Nescot scored 94%, compared to a sector average of 87.9%.

  • 87.5% of our HE students said that NESCOT’s IT resources and facilities have supported their learning well or very well (+8 points above the national benchmark).
  • 95.8% of our HE students said that the library resources have supported their learning well or very well (+12.6 points).
  • 97.9% of our HE students said that it is easy or very easy to access subject specific resources when they need them (+15.7 points).

Strong results across the board

We also scored highly in all NSS categories:

  • Teaching on my course: 93.6% (sector average 86.9%)
  • Learning opportunities: 92.5% (sector average 84.3%)
  • Assessment & Feedback: 95.3% (sector average 80.09%)
  • Academic Support: 95.1% (sector average 87.8%)
  • Organisation & Management: 85.3% (sector average 78.4%)
  • Student Voice: 89.7% (sector average 77.4%)
  • Students’ Union: 92.3% (sector average 76%)
  • Mental wellbeing: 89.6% (sector average 82.3%)
  • Freedom of expression: 95.9% (sector average 88.3%)

Higher education at Nescot attracts learners of all ages, from school leavers to adult returners to education. Nescot scores highly year on year in the NSS for student support.

Our LRC team has introduced a programme of academic support sessions to help return-to-study students reconnect with their academic journey. These sessions include:

  • Reflective writing
  • Presentation skills
  • Academic reading & writing
  • Essay planning, structure & editing
  • Writing analytically at university level
  • Information and database searching
  • Avoiding plagiarism / Referencing

The NSS gathers students’ opinions and feedback from HE learners across the UK. Every university in the UK takes part in the NSS, as do many colleges, such as Nescot. Response rates are consistently high. This year, nationally there was a response rate of over 70% with around 400 providers taking part.
