FOUNDATION LEARNING NEWS

This page is for parents and guardians of our current Foundation Learning students to keep up-to-date with what’s happening in our department.

Students stand behind a table covered with books and leaflets at a fundraising stall indoors, wearing sashes and ID badges.

The Foundation Learning Department

Nescot’s Foundation Learning department offers a wide range of qualifications aimed at supporting students to achieve their full potential. Some of our programmes are aimed at students with learning difficulties and disabilities, and others have been developed for young people who left school with few or no formal qualifications.

Two people in matching purple tops and red striped aprons ice a square cake on a stand in a commercial kitchen. One smooths frosting on the side with a spatula while the other holds a utensil over the cake. A mixing bowl, green measuring scoop, and utensils sit on the stainless steel work surface. Posters and a wall clock are visible in the background.

News from our department

This was a highly engaging personal branding session, delivered by Atkins Réalis, for our Supported Interns. During the session, interns were encouraged to reflect on and develop their own “personal pyramid,” exploring key areas such as values, drivers, reputation, behaviours, skills and strengths, and personal image. Each intern then presented their pyramid to the group, providing a valuable opportunity to build confidence in their presentation and communication skills. The session effectively linked these personal attributes to the wider employment market, helping interns better understand how to position themselves professionally. The interns found the experience extremely beneficial. It was particularly impactful for them to gain insight into how their peers perceive them—highlighting standout strengths, as well as identifying areas for further development. We are very grateful to Atkins Réalis for delivering such an insightful and interactive session!
