Course Overview
This full-time course is for those who want to become qualified Beauty Therapists. On this study programme you will develop your practical skills.
Entry Requirements
New Students
A minimum of three GCSE’s at grade 4, including English, and one GCSE at grade 3 or above.* You will also be interviewed in the Spring term by a member of the Beauty Team.
*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.
Progressing students
Level 1 Diploma in Beauty with the majority of grades being merits or above, plus English. A satisfactory reference for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality.
What the course covers
The main course in this programme consists of underpinning knowledge and understanding alongside the development of practical skills within a salon environment treating paying clients. You will also develop key skills such as communication and information technology.
Topics covered will include facial treatments, manicures, pedicures, eyelash tints and eyebrow shaping, waxing (cool and hot), make-up and anatomy and physiology related to the treatments given. Teaching will take place in our purpose-built salons, where you will also learn about the business side of the beauty industry. Maths and English are included in your programme if you have not already achieved a minimum of a grade 4, in order to boost your employability and to enable progression to higher levels of training.

This course also requires you to carry out external work experience which is undertaken on days/times when you do not have timetabled classes. You are encouraged to source your own placement with support from the WEX Team and your course tutor.
Assessment
Assessment is by coursework for each unit.
Fees and funding
Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 with a valid EHCP, who are studying Further Education courses are not charged course fees.

Progression
This course will qualify you to work as a Beauty Therapist, completing Level 2 treatments in a salon, or perhaps working in cosmetic sales. This Level 2 qualification should also enable you to progress onto further study and training, for example, Level 3 Beauty at Nescot.
