Level 2 Travel and Tourism

Course Overview

This course gives students the knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism industry.

Entry Requirements

New Students

Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English*.

*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.

Progressing Students

A level 1 Diploma plus English and Maths, plus a good reference from your current tutor for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality.

What the course covers

The course gives a comprehensive introduction to different sections of the travel industry including, airlines and airports, destinations, hospitality and travel agencies, alongside the core areas of study of the travel sector and customer service. Students will develop the confidence to progress within specific areas of employment as cabin crew, travel agent or even a holiday rep or alternatively there is the opportunity to progress to a Level 3 course in travel and tourism.

Learners completing these qualifications will have gained a lot of different skills giving them an added advantage over other applicants. The units chosen in the course have been specifically designed to enable the learner to gain the confidence to promote themselves in the job market. These units range from learning about the travel industry as a whole to marketing, and from the importance of good customer service to learning about a range of destinations. Students will be encouraged to build their confidence and reach their full potential at every stage.

This qualification will further enhance the learners’ experience by giving them opportunities to build a solid foundation for further learning, focusing on the development of personal, learning and thinking skills, functional skills, and wider skills in a travel context, such as environmental issues and health and safety in resorts.

The course gives opportunities for everyone to achieve, by ensuring that there are both practical elements as well as more formal assessments, enabling the students to put theory into practice. Our course is structured to ensure that a mixture of theory and practical units are studied.

This course is aimed at students with an interest in travel and tourism and who want to gain a qualification to go into employment within the travel and tourism industry or progress onto the Level 3 Travel and Tourism qualification.

Level 2 Units on the Extended Certificate include:

• Unit 01 Customer service in travel and tourism
• Unit 02 The UK travel and tourism industry
• Unit 07 Travel agency operations
• Unit 08 Hospitality in travel and tourism
• Unit 12 Tourism in a Popular UK Region
• Unit 13 Know about airports and airlines

Work Experience is a part of this course, the hours and dates will be determined by the course tutor. Work experience can be up to a maximum of two weeks on an external placement, you are encouraged to source your own placement with support from the WEX Team and your course tutor. Where external placements are not possible you will be expected to take part in simulated work experience organised by the college.

Fees and funding

You will be provided with all the basic resources and materials needed for your programme. Some additional fees are required to cover the cost of trips made to international destinations and activities required to participate in to gain the criteria to pass this course. Costs approximately : £110.

Please note:

• Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP, and are studying Further Education courses are not normally charged course fees
• Adults may need to pay a fee depending on their personal circumstances. This will be assessed against the relevant Funding Body eligibility criteria at point of enrolment

If you don’t qualify for fee remission, the fees for 2026/27 will be:

£1,080 (plus registration fee to be advised at enrolment)

Fees are for 2026/27 entry and apply to students eligible for home fee status enrolling to funded programmes.
