Level 3 Travel and Tourism

Course Overview

The travel and tourism industry is one of the world’s largest and most dynamic industries, it is also one of the largest employment sectors and is continually growing and developing. The travel industry is so diversified that it contains a range of jobs from holiday reps to tour guides both in the UK and worldwide.

Entry Requirements

New Students

Four GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English or Maths.

The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.

Progressing Students

A Level 2 Diploma at Merit plus English and Maths, plus a good reference from your current tutor for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality.

What the course covers

Completing the Level 3 in Travel and Tourism will give you the opportunity to be part of this fast-paced and exciting industry and progress quickly in your chosen profession. Being taught by lecturers with real industry experience ensures that the teaching is up-to-date, giving you the best chance of succeeding on the course and giving you the best chance to succeed in your chosen profession.

The course is designed using a range of teaching methods combining both practical and theory to ensure that it is as engaging as possible; giving everyone the opportunity to succeed and reach their potential. Combining these elements together with the trips abroad : previous destinations included Rome, Paris, Barcelona and Lanzarote : as well as trips to local UK destinations, such as London and Brighton, we believe that learning from experience gives you the best chance of success. Students in the second year of their study programme currently also complete an NCFE Cabin Crew qualification to enrich and extend their main programme.

The travel department is very proud of the facilities that it has to offer and especially the cabin crew training room that was installed last year giving our students a real feel for the duties and roles of being a Cabin Crew member. This combined with the annual trip to British Airways to be put through some of the training required of cabin crew gives a taste of what it is like to work for one of the world’s prestigious companies.

Work Experience is a part of this course, with the hours and dates determined by the course tutor. Work experience can be up to a maximum of two weeks on an external placement. Please note that you are encouraged to source your own placement with support from the course team. Where external placements are not possible you will be expected to take part in simulated work experience organised by the college.

Assessment

Assessment is by coursework for each unit.

Fees and funding

Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 with a valid EHCP, who are studying Further Education courses are not charged course fees.
