Course Overview

Our Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media course has been designed to reflect industry, and as such you will develop your creative, technical and organisational skills across a number of media sectors. Using industry-standard software and equipment, working individually and in teams, you will complete a diverse range of projects that will stand you in good stead for a Level 3 qualification.


Entry Requirements

New Students

4 GCSE’s at Grade 3 or above.*

Progressing Students

Progressing students must achieve at least a Merit in their Level 1 course to move onto a Level 2. A good reference for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality is essential.


What the course covers

On this UAL Level 2 Diploma course, you will develop key skills in:

  • Filming : Understanding camera operation, composition, and shot techniques.
  • Editing : Developing technical skills in video and audio post-production.
  • Filmmaking Fundamentals : Learning the essential principles of storytelling, directing, and production.
  • Writing Skills : Strengthening creative and technical writing for media projects.
  • Teamwork : Collaborating effectively in production teams. Group work is a big part of this course!
  • Projects such as Short Films, Music Videos, Podcasts : Gaining hands-on experience in real-world creative media projects.

Throughout the course, you will also develop essential communication, literacy, and problem-solving skills that are crucial for success in the creative industries.

Teaching and Industry Experience

At Nescot, our tutors have extensive industry experience, ensuring that your learning is practical, relevant, and industry-focused. Guest speakers from creative sectors, including filmmakers, editors, and producers, will provide valuable insight into real-world career pathways.
Other trips include exhibitions and film screenings throughout November.

Student Success and Progression

We encourage students to take part in competitions and work experience to develop their skills and confidence. Many students progress to our UAL Level 3 Film & Broadcasting course here at NESCOT, which can lead to higher education in creative subjects at top institutions or pursue careers in film, TV, and digital media.

Assessment

Your progress will be assessed through coursework, with grades awarded at Pass, Merit, or Distinction.
You will be graded Pass or Fail for Units 1-7, with the final grade coming from Unit 8, which is the Final Major Project.

Work Experience

As part of this course, you will complete up to two weeks of work experience with an external-based client within the college that simulates industry work. You will receive support throughout this project.

Fees and funding

Additional Costs:

Students will need a starter pack for £35 and a range of visits will be arranged and will cost in total for the year approximately £95.

Please note:

  • Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP, and are studying Further Education courses are not normally charged course fees
  • Adults may need to pay a fee depending on their personal circumstances. This will be assessed against the relevant Funding Body eligibility criteria at point of enrolment

If you don’t qualify for fee remission, the fees for 2026/27 will be:

£1,440 (plus registration fee to be advised at enrolment)

Fees are for 2026/27 entry and apply to students eligible for home fee status enrolling to funded programmes. The fees quoted are subject to personal circumstances and will be confirmed at the time of your enrolment, depending on eligibility criteria.
