Nescot students celebrate GCSE 2026 success

Nescot students received their GCSE results today, with many gathering in Theatre 53 to collect their Maths and English results and celebrate their achievements together.
For many, today’s results mark an important milestone, opening doors to further education, apprenticeships or employment, taking students one step closer to achieving their career ambitions.
Last term, 1,367 students sat their Math and English GCSEs here at Nescot, with entries significantly increasing compared to the previous year. We saw a 16% rise in students taking Maths and a 29% rise in those taking English. It was a huge effort from the Exams team, invigilators and all the college staff to make sure things ran smoothly on the day and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone for all their hard work.
It’s impossible to go a day without using Maths and English skills, which is why Nescot teaching focuses on bringing these essential subjects to life. Through practical, real-world applications, Nescot helps students understand how the skills they develop in the classroom are applied in everyday life and future careers. Whether that’s working out costs and budgets in business studies, measuring ingredients and calculating cooking time in a professional kitchen, calculating the right angle to score that goal or working our exchange rates – numeracy and literacy are essential.
Ethan was delighted with his grade four pass: “I’ve got a a pass, I’ve got a four. It’s been three years coming, so it really means a lot that Nescot cares about education and helped me pass.”
Bradley left school at 16 and re-took Maths and English GCSE at the age of 22: “I got a seven in maths and a six in English, so I’m extremely happy with that. I’ve been wanting to get these since I was 16, so if you want to do your GCSEs when you’re older, you can still do them. It’s not too late!”
GCSE Maths and English are key qualifications that open doors to future study, apprenticeships and employment and that’s why we work hard to make learning engaging and relevant. By connecting classroom learning and theory to student’s study areas and future career aspirations, we help them understand the value of these skills and build the confidence to apply them in real-world situations.
I’m so proud of all our learners today, whatever their results. They have all worked incredibly hard to balance their vocational studies with the additional commitment required to prepare for these important qualifications.
Adult learners at Nescot celebrated an outstanding GCSE Results Day after achieving a 100% pass rate on the college’s first-ever GCSE Biology (Part-Time Evening) course, with every student gaining a Grade 5. This is the first year Nescot has run the course, designed for adult learners balancing study alongside work, family and other commitments, the evening programme helps open doors to further study and career progression, including teacher training.
Students returned to campus on Results Day to collect their certificates and celebrate their success with course tutor Dr Jilly Binks-Swain whose pride in her learners was evident throughout the morning.
The success is particularly meaningful because many of the learners enrolled on the course specifically to secure the science qualification needed for the next stage of their journey into teaching. With their GCSE Biology now achieved, they can progress towards teacher training and move closer to fulfilling their career ambitions.
For the students, the results represent far more than a qualification. They are the culmination of months of hard work and the beginning of exciting new opportunities.
As Nescot celebrates its first GCSE Biology evening cohort, these fantastic results demonstrate the impact that flexible adult education can have in helping people change careers, gain new qualifications and realise long-held ambitions.
