Hairdressing
A career in hairdressing is creative and people-focused, giving individuals the chance to transform clients’ looks and boost their confidence. Hairdressers provide cutting, colouring, and styling services while delivering excellent customer care. With experience, they can progress to senior roles, salon management, or run their own business.
Beauty Therapy
Trained beauty therapists help individuals feel confident and look their best, by providing treatments such as facials, massages, manicures, and skincare services, while delivering excellent customer care. With experience, they can progress to specialist roles, spa management, or run their own business.
Hair & Media Makeup
If make-up is your passion, then we have the course for you! Nescot have qualifications dedicated to aspiring make-up artists. You will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of makeup and hair styling and develop essential skills for a career in make-up artistry.
Supporting your studies
Whilst at college you will be supported to deliver hairdressing and beauty treatments to the high standards expected in professional salons and spas.
Through practical and classroom learning, you will build your confidence, creativity, and a strong understanding of the industry, as well as a wide range of skills, including hair techniques, customer service, organisation, and communication. You will also gain essential knowledge in health and safety, anatomy and physiology, while learning to manage your time effectively, build a professional portfolio.
Great facilities
The department has three professional beauty therapy salons where you will use our professional facial, body and electrical equipment to treat members of the public.
We also have two purpose-built hairdressing salons where students learn cutting, styling and colouring before progressing to work experience with paying clients.
Our staff
All beauty therapy lecturers are experienced therapists and teachers with extensive training within the industry. Whilst our hairdressing lecturers are experienced hairdressers and teachers and are trained by Toni & Guy in the London Academy.
Course highlights
Beauty Therapy
- The opportunity to gain additional qualifications such as spray tanning, eyelash extensions and ear piercing.
- Train with high-end products such as NYX make-up and Eve Taylor face and body aromatherapy skincare.
Hairdressing
- The hairdressing department is powered by the multi-award wining hairdressing brand Toni & Guy, including visits from the team and seminars in the London Academy.
- Train with top hairdressing brands and products including L’Oreal and Label.m.
Hair & Media Make-up
- Training that includes airbrushing, media effects, wig styling and much more. Perfect if you are looking for a career in TV and film.
- Attend industry workshops with leading brands such as Kryolan and NYX.
- Develop your skills by doing the make-up for our own performing arts productions and in local theatres.
We took part in a project where we created special effects makeup on casualties as part of a training exercise for student paramedics. It was hard work, but it was a great experience and I learnt a lot. We were encouraged to treat the creative brief as a job, and to research, plan and practice in advance. We had to be really disciplined with our timing and that was good practice for the industry.
I’ve learnt so much. Every tutor on the course is so knowledgeable about each subject. They have been a great support with my preparation for the national qualifying round of WorldSkills UK – an achievement I’m very proud of! I’m hoping to do the level 3 course and gain work experience as my next steps.
My course has been really good. It offered me the opportunity to develop my practical skills within a salon environment. The tutors are great and were very supportive and helpful with my preparation in the national qualifying round for WorldSkills UK. It’s been an amazing experience taking part in the semi-finals, which is great to have on my CV.
