Nescot’s Level 3 Year 2 Travel and Tourism students recently enjoyed an exciting orientation day, hosted by Royal Caribbean aboard their Freedom-class cruise ship, Independence of the Seas.
The interactive day formed part of our Travel and Tourism students’ learning on the cruise industry. The day included a welcome with refreshments in the Star Lounge of Independence of the Seas along with an introduction by Leah Finch, Events and Training Manager, EMEA at Royal Caribbean International and a thrilling tour of the cruise ship.
Students explored the wide range of products and services aboard Independence of the Seas, learnt about the different room types and researched Royal Caribbean’s unique product offering for customers. They toured the ship’s central Royal Promenade with shops and eateries; the theatre featuring Broadway productions; the gym, spa and pool areas; The Perfect Storm waterslides, and the FlowRider surf simulator. They enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch in the Windjammer restaurant and had the chance to explore the stunning cruise ship at their leisure.
Leah Finch, Events and Training Manager, EMEA, Royal Caribbean International, said: “It was a pleasure to not only share our fantastic brand with the students from Nescot, but also to provide them with real-world insights into the travel and tourism industry. The students were engaged, enthusiastic, and eager to learn, which made the experience especially rewarding. We look forward to welcoming them again in the future.”
Zara, Nescot Travel and Tourism student, shared: “We had such a lovely time on board Independence of the Seas. It was such an amazing experience to actually enjoy the facilities first hand as part of our learning.”
Jennifer Fasad, Nescot Travel and Tourism lecturer, added: “Thank you to Leah and her team for the warm welcome aboard Independence of the Seas, for the time taken to show our students around the incredible cruise ship, and the educative fun facts about Royal Caribbean. The exciting and enjoyable visit not only brought learning to life for our students but also gave them an insight into future employment opportunities in the cruise industry.”
This visit follows on from the Cruise Career Springboard programme that participating Nescot Travel and Tourism students successfully completed earlier this year.
