How to apply to study at Nescot.
We are very proud to announce that Nescot’s Higher Education provision has been rated as Silver in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The College is also rated Silver in the framework’s new categories of Student Experience and Student Outcomes. This status recognises our continuing commitment to high quality teaching and learning and support for our students.
Nicki Adams, Assistant Principal for Curriculum, said: “We are very thrilled that the Office for Students has recognised what we know to be strengths of our provision: the quality of support for students and our ethos of designing and delivering programmes that provide more than just a qualification. It is a testament to the excellent work of all of the teams, teaching and support, involved in the student journey and I am very proud to be a part of this.”
Julie Kapsalis, Principal and CEO, added: “The College is proud of our HE teaching and support team for reaching the rigorous standards that this status requires. I’m particularly pleased as it shows that providers in the FE sector, like Nescot, are being independently assessed alongside large universities and shown to be offering similarly outstanding experiences for our students.”
What the Teaching Excellence Framework is and what this means for Nescot
The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) is a national scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS) that aims to encourage higher education providers to improve and deliver excellence in the areas that students care about the most: teaching, learning and achieving positive outcomes from their studies.
The TEF does this by assessing and rating universities and colleges for excellence in their Higher Education provision, above a set of minimum requirements for quality and standards. Universities and colleges that take part in the TEF receive an overall rating as well as two underpinning ratings – one for the student experience and one for student outcomes. The ratings reflect the extent to which a university or college delivers an excellent experience and outcomes for its mix of undergraduate students and across the range of its undergraduate courses and subjects.
Nescot was judged under TEF using the same criteria as all providers of higher education in the UK, including all universities and other providers who participated. The College was awarded a Silver grading for Student Experience, Student Outcomes and overall, indicating that higher education provision is of very high quality for each of these categories. These judgements are based on evidence from student feedback, performance indicators such as achievement and destinations (progression into employment or more advanced courses) in a detailed submission provided to the OfS. The submission outlined all of the work the college has been undertaking to enhance all aspects of teaching, learning and support. Academic experience and assessment, resources, support services, student engagement, positive outcomes and educational gains were all scrutinised by a panel of sector experts.
