Nursing Cadet Scheme

The Royal College of Nursing Prince of Wales Nursing Cadet Scheme

Develop your life skills, grow in confidence and understand what it means to work in nursing and health care. 

This scheme gives 19 - 25 year olds an introduction to potential careers in nursing and health and social care, through health care related learning modules and a clinical observational placement. 

This course is free (see note below)

Why should I consider it?

Volunteer – if you’re not a volunteer already, a chance to join, train and volunteer in your local community

Placements – enhance your CV with 20 hours of observational clinical experience and gain insight into health care roles.

Practical skills – hands on basic life support, manual handling training and de-escalation skills, whilst also learning about developing your own wellbeing and resilience
Next steps – enhance career awareness for nursing and health care, or further study/apprenticeships.

Details of the programme

The programme provides an insight into careers in the nursing industry, promotes confidence, and develops skills and experience for job interviews within the nursing sector.

The program consists of 30 hours in taught sessions and 20 hours clinical placement.

Is there any cost?

Those who qualify as a 'home' student will be able to study this course for free. If you have permanent residence in the UK or have 'settled' status, you will normally qualify as a 'home' student. 

If you are unsure about if you qualify, we will refer you to our student finance team when you come to join.
