Professional Development Award

In partnership with Surrey Heartlands NHS Trust

Nescot is working in partnership with NHS Surrey Heartlands to offer the Professional Development Award (PDA), a personal development programme designed to cultivate team leading skills of clinical and non-clinical support workers.

The programme ensures your support workers receive exceptional training, fostering a highly skilled and motivated team. This programme can be offered to team members in settings such as:

  • Primary Care
  • Charities
  • Social Care
  • Acute Hospitals

Details of the Programme

The core qualification is the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Principals of Team Leading. We will assess the core skills of each learner before they start this programme, providing additional training where necessary. This will involve 'Functional Skills' training in English, Maths & Digital Skills, either taken 2 hours a week for 10 weeks or in a three-day block.

About the Level 2 Certificate in Principals of Team Leading

This course aims to provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to successfully lead a team. The qualification will teach you the principles of team leading:

  • How to use different styles of leadership to enhance your team’s performance
  • How to motivate team members to get the best out of them
  • Learners will develop skills in leadership, communication and personal performance management.

The course is 16 weeks long, with 4 x 2 hour workshops (monthly) either at Nescot or online. A commitment of around 2- 3 hours per week will be required for learners to complete self-directed online study tasks that will be set by their tutor.

Understand health and safety procedures in the workplace:

  • Hazards, risks, competence and risk assessment
  • Health and safety legislation and regulations
  • Importance of following health and safety procedures.


Introduction to coaching:

  • Coaching models
  • Importance of setting goals and targets
  • Coaching Plans


Understand personal development:

  • Using Skills audit to identify areas for development
  • Importance of seeking and responding positively to feedback
  • Reviewing progress against objectives in a personal development plan
How We Support Our Learners

A learner handbook is provided for all adult learners at Nescot serving as a comprehensive guide providing essential information including all dates, deadlines, resources for the learner's academic journey, what support is available and how to access this, alongside our wellbeing and career services.

Learners are provided with a tutor, who they have access to via email.

The PDA will have monthly sessions where Learners are able to attend in person or via our online platform to discuss with peers how they can apply their learning to the services across the health care sector.

Learners are provided with guidance and support throughout their programme with some being able to access learning support if needed.

Eligibility

Prior to starting the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Principals of Team Leading, learners will undertake an initial assessment to establish their digital, maths and English skills.

Learners need to be 19 or older as of the 31st August 2023 and cannot be enrolled on any other government funded education programme.
